Tourist in my own town - last day

Everything comes to an end.
In her last day in Lisbon we took her to Belém, to see the Jerónimos Monastery.

Amazing how inside such a big monastery, inside the chapel to be precise, a lot of the decorations are pagan...

Afterwards we went to see the gardens, taste the typical pastries and even at the pastry shop there was something to see....

We then headed to the Monument to Discoveries.

We walked a bit more along the riverside.

To the Belém Tower. I guess at least some of you will recognise this one...

And finally we visited Belém Cultural Center, a multi-purpose cultural center with exhibition halls, concert halls, conference rooms, more gardens and a few 'art shops'.

Dear Dcver, I never want to hear one bad word about Portugal again, not after this glorious trip :-)

I've added Portugal to my list of places I must visit.

India, Kenya, Portugal. Back to England.

Darn, I need a yatch, and I'll just sail the world.

ale: Funny you should say that, our friend is 100% American! Maybe we sidetracked her from the rest of the americans ;)

GG: But you will get many bad words on Portugal, even from me. Talking of which, you know vit webb's ite, don't you? She says 'terrible' things about our country... :D

bent: The fact is this is almost all that is left from the past glory, sad to admit.

tacit: I know the arches may seem like a mosque, but in fact that is the cloyster of a Roman Catholic monastery. I guess the arab influence on our ancestors must have played a role on this.
