Mea Culpa - Procrastination

Yup, I should be doing something other than writing this.
Today was the day I said I was going to prepare all the slides in the presentation I have to make.
I really don't feel like doing it.
It seems that nowadays whenever I have to teach or do a presentation I feel like getting away from here and just throw everything to kingdom come. Start a new life somewhere else.
The stupid thing is I love my job and I love talking to other people about it. Its the teaching part that gets to my nerve. Those who'd rather be somewhere else instead of having to learn anything. Those who'd love to learn but even if you'd have all eternity to explain it to them still they wouldn't grasp it. Those who do understand but will never put it to use. Those who will only put it to use if they can't avoid working. I was not cut out to teach. There you have it.

Those who can do, those who can't teach, those who can't teach administrate.
Whoever first said this was absolutely right.
I still can, so there is no point in teaching yet.
No wonder I got away from college when I was teaching.
Four years putting up with my 'dear students' almost made me an homicidal maniac.
Oh, but don't worry, I am ok now.
Voices? Oh, you mean the little daemon inside my head? He's asleep now, but we better not wake him up lest he forces me to slaughter everybody around us...

I tried teaching for one year. I hated it. Not everybody is cut out to do it. I am not going to do it again, if I can help it.

Every job has it's boring spots, the parts we hate. I hate sewing, but I like the painting and designing part of it.

As for writing...I don't enjoy the beginning part, writing down the story. I love the rewriting / editing part.

Hmmmm...very interesting. I love teaching, but I don't anymore. My faculty advisor says I should get my degree in teaching, since that is much more marketable than journalism. I love sharing knowledge and opening others' minds to new ideas, giving them tools they can use in everyday life. But...(DCvR put it so eloquently) it is the rampant apathy of my students that caused me to quit teaching. Which still leaves me with no direction in life. No wonder I am not getting anywhere.

GG: Even now some things about my job are dreadful and most of it is routine, but I still have interesting things that keep it a challenge make me love it.

bunny jo: Going for the marketable career is only good if you're interested in making money regardless what you really enjoy. If, however, you don't place money above all the rest I'd say you'd better do ALWAYS the career choices based on what you like doing. People spend on average above eight hours per day working. That much time doing something one hates must be hell.

I, too, have a presentation to prepare. Ugh!

Good luck with yours!

I know I'd make a horrible teacher. For all the reasons you've given. I'm the kind of person who enjoys learning, and I just can't understand people who don't. The people who are in class because they have to be. And the stupid people, who just don't understand anything. What are they doing there if they lack the intelligence?

There was a commercial here recently for some laptop computer. It basically said 'buy our computer so you can listen to music and watch movies during class.' I wanted to throw the TV out the window!

Maybe I'll make a post about this... What I would be like if I were a teacher... Could be interesting...

bent: Thank you. It's really no big deal, but I just don't feel like doing it.

Viking: Looting & Plundering? Slaughtering? All the stuff you would like to teach to Viking Jr.? That would make some interesting courses, you know...

I am the QUEEN of procrastination. And blogging is the ultimate distraction. Made all the worse when you are self-employed as I am and your immediate "supervisor" is a bit of a lax !!
