Game Over

I've just read this news.
In broad lines the case is this guy got arrested for cheating a game.
The guy developed several bots to 'steal' items from other players in an on-line role playing game.
So?
Didn't they ever 'miscount' on Snakes & Ladders? Didn't they ever cheat on any game?
I mean, cheating is not ok.
Cheating is morally wrong. But arresting a guy 'cause he was cheating on a game? Isn't that taking things a bit too far?
What? Oh, right... I'm being naïf here.
You're right, makes sense. He got jailed 'cause he is a damn good hacker but creating this bot was the only thing they actually could prove he did.
Guess 'innocent 'til proven guilty' happens only in the movies, out there in the real world 'nailed for whatever they can stick on you' prevails.

PS: True enough the guy was selling the 'items' in on-line auctions, but who buys virtual props anyway? Like, does anyone want to buy this magical spear from me? Come on...

I think of the old proverb: a fool and his money are soon parted. I once found a website where you could buy doggie poo in gift-basket form. Just goes to show, there's a market for ANYTHING in this on-line world!

Darn pirate.

Sorry, D, that just slipped out...I'm actually quite amused by the whole thing.

How much was he offering the magical spear for?

There were two little old ladies here who used to sell a plot of land that didn't belong to them, they sold it over and over and over, hahaha...

penny lane: Makes you wonder if there is still anyone sane out there, doesn't it?

isa, isae: And the best thing is you don't even have to bother with prime material, transportation, production rates and all that industrial stuff. You can just imagine whatever you feel like and then sell it!

bunny jo: Would you like to buy yourself some new universe you could rule as Goddess, btw? I'd make you a really nice price. :P

GG: The magical spear I made up, just trying to check if there would be a market for that stuff among you folks... Sorry.
Well, at least those ladies were selling something real, I mean it's a scam but there is something that could be bought, were they the owners. But scamming people over imaginary objects is just way to weird for me.

Yeah, along with the magical item you buy comes off course a free storing place, to keep it safe from the itchy fingers of thieves, wiches and such. And off course there will be made a spiritual connection between the buyer and the item, this is guaranteed for life, including maintenance, and support:)

You sound convincing, that is half a sale.

Bunnyjo, I remember that. If I remember correctly the gist was to send these "gifts" to your ex.

Hey D, you think that's bad? A woman sold her father's ghost on ebay...well, his walking stick I think represented his ghost. Her son was afraid of her father's ghost, so she had to sell it...something like that, it was on the news.

bent: Yuk! Glad none of my exes thought of that.

GG: It's not the sellers who puzzle me, it's the buyers!
