Damned internet!!!

There is this cute little girl that GH says is my favorite.
A friend's daughter, the first of "our" girls.
Yesterday we were at her real uncle's birthday party and she went to the computer.
When her aunt got there she was using Google's image search.
- What are you doing E?
- Searching the internet.
- What for?
- Well, if I write down "naked guys" it shows me photos...

She is only nine. Some minutes before she was asking us for balloons, a while after she was crawling to my lap asking for a piggyback ride.
She is a rather innocent girl, proof to that is that she didn't even try to lie about what she was doing. And it is only natural for kids her age to be curious about sex... but I guess we all learned a valuable lesson on unrestricted access to the internet at our places.

Now I’m going to lie down for some rest, party on Friday, party yesterday, it really is a hard life!

Ow yes! If I had kids I would never let it unrestricted. In both - the meaning of time spent with pc/video and the content.

we have discussed it at home and we have decided that we would have time limits for both internet and tv. we think societies values are going down the drain because there is a great lack of control these days. oh well, we will see when the day comes...
life is too hard on you DCver! when are you going to get a break? :) greetings from Malmo - it is just an amazing city.

shyha: When she is with any of us she usually doesn't get to spend much time with computer or TV, there is always something else to do but since we don't have kids ourselves we never thought of having parental control on our computers.

christine: Guess for you folks with kids this is really something very basic... still, now we know it.

nyasha: This particular kid is slightly spoiled, and I am one of those to blame. But this is a rather special case and we all really want her to feel loved and protected.

I tell my kid's about the secret government agencies that moniter our web-surfing and email your name to Santa for his 'naughty' list if you go anyplace bad.

Then there're the 'cyberspace monsters'. They wait at certain web addresses and if you stumble across them, they reach through the moniter and pull you in.

BE AFRAID LITTLE CHILDREN.

chill daddy: I wouldn't try to scare a nine year old with that story... kids these days aren't that gullible. At least they don’t seem that gullible to me. It is amazing how smart they are.

vesparosso: Actually I am glad they have access to technology and all the new ways of learning, it allows them to develop their skills faster and better, but it does bring plenty of added concerns to parents and educators.

cave renovator: Times do change. Our parents had other troubles to worry about I guess.
In a way we all felt a bit guilty at this situation because we never thought about it before. With the exception of those who have kids and who are already used to having locked channels on their TVs and restricted access on their computers. The problem was that due to the fact we don’t have kids yet we never thought of preventing kids access to certain contents in our places.

cadiz: Kids these days seem to develop a lot faster.

GG: Maybe not so scary, after all she is still very innocent and she didn't even tried to hide what she was doing. With some guidance kids will not be harmed by this age of technology.
