10th of June

The day of Portugal, Camões and of the Portuguese Communities abroad. National Holiday in Portugal, of course. Sadly it is kind of a wasted holiday this year, being a Saturday and all.

In Lisbon this day also marks the beginning of the city’s yearly festivities, having its highpoint on the 13th, Saint Anthony’s Day but lasting until the 29th, Saint Peter’s Day.
On the night of the 12th there is a huge parade in Avenida da Liberdade, and in all typical neighborhoods, the older parts of town that is, there are food stands with BBQs, plenty of drinks and dances.
This year I probably won't even go to any dances in Lisbon, but having lived most of my life in one of Lisbon's most typical areas (yup, I hadn't always lived in suburbia) I can easily survive one year without all the commotion of Lisbon's festivities.

Getting stuff delivered from Ikea, getting to assemble the stuff and going to a party starting late afternoon. A long day ahead.

Well, DC, enjoy your National Holiday putting Ikea stuff together!
I am sure the party will make up for it!

cream: My back hates Ikea. Their stuff is way too heavy!

christine: Behave? I always do!!! Kind of...

nyasha: Why is it Portuguese people abroad always complain about missing the food? Same happens to me when I'm away.
I used to live in Graça. It was a bit like living in a small town, in the old "bairros" everybody knows everybody.
