Olé!!!

Contrary to the Portuguese tradition I am not much of a bullfighting fan.
Nonetheless I rejoice at the fact that Campo Pequeno, Lisbon’s bullring, has finally been restored.
This arena built in a Moorish style dates back to 1892.
To generate an additional income in order to preserve this red brick building a mall and cinemas were built beneath the bullring.
In season there are two bullfights per week, during winter time the arena is used for concerts and circus.

"during winter time the arena is used for concerts and circus" - it must be said that every day i learn something new in your blog! I sure knew it was a Praca dos Touros and therefore for touradas. I've been away for too long...

coffee addict: Now that I think about it it has been a long time since I've last been to a concert there, the last ones were The Pogues and Al di Meola, John McLaughlin & Paco de Lucia.

It looks magnificent!
Very good idea to use it in the winter. Most Spanish ones are closed then.

Wonderful looking building, shame about its main purpose! I must put Portugal on our list of places to visit when my wife retires.....

cream: It's too valuable a space right in the centre of Lisbon to be used just a couple of times a year.

ka: Welcome! The inside however is just an ordinary bullring, much like the interior of a football stadium.

hughes views: Why wait for your wife's retirement? You can both spend some holidays here before that... Anyway I don't really enjoy to watch the bulls suffering, but at the same time I have to somehow admire the courage of those who face the bulls.

stephen bess: Welcome and thank you very much.
