Faith

taize

Being brought up as a roman catholic, although being given the chance to learn about other religions, I ended up turning my back on religion.
If seen as a code of conduct, every religion is good.
If seen as the only possible path, with fanaticism, every religion is bad.
Also my own concept of God is different from most people’s, and it is not my purpose to convert anyone to my points of view.
This said, there are still some things that I recall with certain nostalgia, like the Taizé Community. One of the few places in this planet where you know you are welcome no matter what your religion is, or even if you are an atheist.
The only place I have ever been to where the feeling of peace and togetherness can invade us and make us feel that all the hundreds of people around us are actually our brothers and sisters.
The only place where even atheists pray/sing, simply because, as a friend of mine later said:” you just merge, you just blend in, you know I don’t even like to sing, I just felt like doing it, I just felt I belonged there”.
I know one day I will go there again.
I never forgot all the friends I made there, and hope I never will.
This community is the only thing that still makes me have a shred of hope in mankind.

I was chatting time ago with a friend whose little child died tragically, he said me that after this experience he turn against to any religious belief, his wife however, afeter the tragedy turns into a fanatic adventist.

I think that religion is a good thing at individual level, I am firmly convinced that miracles exist and I pray every day, I think also that it may be a good relief to believe in a sort of supernatural forces which sometimes can help me. "There are not atheist in the cats mount" and those of us who had passed dangerous times know well how usefull may be pray sometimes.

However I strongly doubt that exist some kind of God, worried on everything what happen to me as christian churches teach. I also doubt on the validity of any church, I fully agree with Nietshe on the perversion of priests of any kind.

Maybe religious is a need for people with BIG problems, people without serious problems surely do not need religion at all

I believe in God, it's just that I don't trust any church... Also I don't really believe God can be the punisher/rewarder some people imagine. The same way I don't believe in good people/bad people tags.

It's too bad that "church" has become equal in definition to "politics" (in theory, at least). I've had trouble finding any one religion to follow, because I want to believe what I want to believe. I dont want people to tell me I'm wrong ... I dont want to argue, or be cursed ... or have my beliefs judged by my peers.

Just my humble opinion. d:)

What we beleive and how live somehow seem to go hand in hand. There are so many people that I have met recently that are angry at God/religions/churches, or simply don't believe for whatever reason it is amazing to me. As a person who does attend church and firmly believes in God, I also recogize the importance of knowing for yourself and having a good foundation of what you are believing in. Too many wishy-washy folks in this world who grab ahold of someone's 'doctrine' and let it become their own just because it feels right. Even Christ himself said search the scriptures.
