What news?

It seems me and my colleagues have been reading messed up news digests for the last couple of months. The persons who prepare those said digests are not however being sacked. This seems to agree with the theory my Favorite Co-worker and I have been working on: if your work sucks people will stop counting on it and pressure on your back will ease; if you do nothing you'll never screw up and you'll get promoted sooner or later; if you keep things running and you actually do the job you're paid to you're stuck.
According to this same theory we seem to be both stuck. If this proves to be true I'll start goofing around and let her do all the work to try and get promoted, as easy as that.

Oh, you gave me a good chuckle! I completely agree with your theory - in my experience, being responsible and doing a good job only gets your ass in the hot seat whereas playing dumb and helpless is rewarded with all kinds of extra perks - like no expectations! If I were you, I'd stick to your plan and let your co-worker take the fall while you head up the ladder! :)

Great theory! At my job we're all assigned programming work so it has to get done eventually.

bunny jo: I just hope she doesn't stop working first. Thank you for the tip.

isis: If I must I guess I'll have to see it. LOL

glitzy: We too have assigned tasks, the point is if you don't deliver results you get lesser tasks, less responsability, less work, whereas some of us get all the "must be ready yesterday" stuff.

So I take it London was not bombed again? Good to know. I thought the BBC was sleeping on the job.

A very accurate assessment of how the real workplace works!

The law of averages! If you stick your neck out very often you are bound to get hung if things go wrong.
But if you only wait for the right opportunity to shine in front of the superiors then, if they are impressionable, you're on the right track!
How wrong!

tall glass: It is a complex situation, some of us have tight deadlines, high responsibility, work overtime, etc... some others seem to have a blessed life as neer-do-wells.

penny: Knowing that it is the same everywhere doesn't help much. Well, it does in fact, it serves to know there is no benefict in going somewhere else.

cream: Now you are talking statistics! LOL

In the same vein, I've learned to NEVER cross-train on someone else's job, NEVER volunteer for committee-work, and NEVER, under any circumstances, volunteer for any leadership-type responsabilities that do not come with the neccessary authority.

It's so much safer and more pleasant in the background.

(btw dcver, I'm still a regular here, I just can't usually think of any useful input)

the dad: If you can't fire them you can't lead them! LOL I agree with you.
As for the lack of comments, commenting is not mandatory here, although the input is always welcome.
