The lyrics
I guess I should have included this on the last post:
The portion in brackets was skipped in the song, although it is part of the original poem.

|     | Green are the fields The color of lemon Such as the eyes Of my heart Field that extends In a grassy beauty Sheep that on it Thy grazing have Of grass thy live Brought by the Summer And I of memories From my heart [Herds who graze In happiness Thy food you don’t understand] That which you eat That is not grass, It’s a blessing from the eyes Of my heart. |
The portion in brackets was skipped in the song, although it is part of the original poem.

oh maaan, as much as i dont like to give complements to dcver but i must admit Portuguese really is the most beautiful language.
ale: If it makes you any happier, there is no big merit in just being born here, thus you don't have to make it a compliment to me. ;)
D,
I listened to Zeca Afonso's beautiful voice and it caused me to reach for my copy of Fernando Pessoa's Selected Poems. So here's something as haunting as that song sounds.
'Steps Linger' (5/9/33)
Steps linger in the grasses
Between moonlight and moonlight
All is scent and woodland
It feels as if someone passes.
Passes, treading lightly
Ground the moon has unsaid
In a blanched gulp, the lightness
Of that light tread.
Is it elf, is it gnome, is it fairy?
The form no one perceives?
I remember: nothing was there
I feel, and yearning believes.
Thanks for posting the lyrics! I love Portuguese music anyway but to understand what it's all about is great!
i fell in love with a man simply after hearing him speak portuguese. it's a wonder, too, because the guy had never been out of the midwest.
dan: Thank you. Is that Pessoa's? I had never read it before. His work is so vast, and with both originals in Portuguese and English, that I haven't yet learned it all.
cream: But with all the Spanish you know you can read the original Portuguese version too, no? And even listen to the words in the song and make the sense of most of it.
cadiz: Son of Portuguese immigrants?
D,
Yup, a genuine Pessoa. The date is correct as well.
When I read it I can understand most of the words and I can work out what the song is all about but when I listen although I understand a few words, it is impossible to make out the great majority of them.
And I am still only learning Spanish, really.
