Attachment is suffering
Yup, Buddha was right. When I look around I see tons of things we don’t actually need.
Stuff we brought from journeys, mementos from an infinity of places and occasions.
Carting it all will be painful .
But still the most painful thing to move will be all the utilities, documents and services related with this address. From drivers license and ID cards to passports and cell phone billing. That my friends is the really scary part.
Well, I’m off to read some of your blogs and I’ll stop ranting about this moving.
Hopefully I’ll only post about the moving again when I get the keys to the new place, but then you'll get some photos also.

Buddha said that? Shucks, I thought it was John Lennon...
All this week I've been getting rid of things I don't need. Throwing them away if they're junk, putting them on ebay if they're not. I want to minimalize while I still can!
I used to hoard stuff out of sentimentality but I've come to the conclusion that if I don't really need something it goes in the bin!
DC, I like your organisation! Computer inventory! That's amazing!
One day your children will be happy for those momentos, they'll fight for them, making you more miserable. There. Did I help?
Good luck with the move. Every place holds memories and mementos and it's only a matter of time before the new one does.
Not looking forward to move; got tons of useless stuff I gathered as "memories". Instead of pics, I have a thing from each journey and every project I've been to... Last time I moved I threw all my shoes away(My mom started collecting all the shoes I ever used as a child, so I kept on...), 27 years of shoes turning into waste... Hmmm, not sure if I regret getting rid of those...
Moving house is a big big issue. After you moved, you will have to unpacked everything again. Aw...
Good Luck to u DCver!
Have a good move. Always for the better!
Cup of Tea Time! That means I am now reading your blog. Catching up on the move - Valentines Day (I was so bitter that morning).
Good luck with the move and I'll be glad for you when it is over. I have very few things but it took me days to move it with my schedule etc.
I spent Valentines day with my boss on the Olympic Peninsula. Seen a good sunset and then to top it off an eagle flew very, VERY low over my head in slow-mo, it was great. We blabbed and talked for 2 days straight (unwork related) spent some time in the rainforest with my trees and then came back home.
Feels good to relax tonight an read your blog.
I am also seeing someone new which is kind of nice!
Do you have address printed in passport? In polish passports there's a place to fill, but with a pencil and you do it yourself. Everything else is a real pain in the bottom. I've lived in new place for more than a half year and I still didn't do it...
This is whyn moving can be good. You are forced to go through stuff and free yourself of the stuff you don't need. I ask myself of each item: Do I want to move this again and again? Have I used it in the past two years? If not, out it goes.
As for paperwork it sucks and there is even more of it when you are self employed.
Moving DOES have an end! I promise!
viking: I think we won't be leaving this stuff behind though.
penny: Thanks. Everything should go smoothly.
cream: Don't let it fool, it's all out of lazyness. If I don't keep things under control sooner or later it would backfire and I would have to search things through all the boxes.
GG: Of course you helped! :D
nml: Thanks. We both loved the new place as soon as we first saw it, so it won't be too hard.
isa, isae: No problem with old shoes here... now when you talk about old t-shirts things change a bit. But GH already managed to convince me to ditch most of those.
starlet: Thanks. I'll only unpack the essencials for starters. I'll try and keep the rest for some later time.
pmbc: Thank you. We try, we have to keep on trying.
lisa: Sounds like a great way to spend VD. Wish you all the best with that new someone!!
shyha: Yup, address in passport and on a lot of other things. Getting all the documents renewed will be a major headache.
kris: If I were to be self-employed ever again I would get myself an accountant!!! I hate paperwork!!!
The end will be when the both of us will seat on our new lanai watching the sunset... :D
