On the phone…
…with my 5 year old Goddaughter:
- Can you pick me up from school more often?
- Maybe. Why would you want that?
- Mom and dad are always in a rush. With you I get to go to the playground and you always take me for a stroll!
She seems to already have her own agenda, but at least she’s honest about it.

i wonder how her parents would feel about that if they knew... she has got a point though, adults these days are always in a hurry to do something. There is always something to be stressed about! and then they buy their kids' love with gifts and other rewards. Sad.
But it is great that you have made such an impact na tua afilhada :)
D,
Kids are very honest about which adults they like and don't like. This one likes you because you have time for her. Good, enjoy it, she clearly does.
christine: Guess I'm stuck with that... but there is another catch to it: if I pick her up at school she gets to be alone with me, without her younger sis, she gets my undivided attention. ;)
coffee addict: The parents were listening, we had been talking on the phone 'til the wee one realised it was me on the other side and asked to cut in the conversation. They feel great about it. Things only start to get messy when she and her younger sister want to pull me in different directions. :)
dan: That's what's so easy with other folk's kids, we can be with them when we have the time for it. The truth is if I were her parent, having to care for her and her sister everyday I would probably not be as patient everyday, most days I would be in a rush in fact.
Smart lady ;-) She's learnt young!
And you thought it was 'cause of youuuuu, but it's really the playground hee hee
I love it when other people take a personal interest in my kids. I just want them to feel important, even if it isn't always me who does it. It is incredibly hard to spend quality time with them individually, plus feed them, bathe them, clothe them, and help them with their schoolwork.
Sometimes the best you can do is to make those domestic moments into positive interactions. Our kids would probably still perceive us as 'too busy' though.

nml: Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me kids are a lot smarter these days.
GG: Maybe. Maybe I'm just means to an end. Who cares. Her smile is worth it!
chill daddy: Parents are always parents, it's the uncles, aunts and grandparents that get to spoil the kids and shun the most of the bad parts, like nursing them when they get sick, putting up with their tantrums... our nieces for instance never pull a tantrum when GH is present.
DC, somebody's got you wrapped round their finger already!
She is too cute. I enjoy the little tidbits you share about her.
cream: And it's not just this one... add her sister, plus another beautiful chick, plus two other nieces, plus... well, you get the picture! ;)
bent: But sometimes they are terrifying too... razor sharp honesty is dangerous.
hah! That's great :)
