They are taking over
Some feminists have often held that if women ruled the world’s nations there would be peace and harmony amongst all people. Without pretending to know any better some women, like Condi, don’t seem to support that theory.
However it seems we are on the right road to find it all out.
Michelle Bachelet in Chile and Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in Liberia are two examples of women being elected in countries I wouldn’t expect it to happen some years ago.
The first one in a country still healing from the wounds the dictatorship has inflicted on its society, the other one in a war torn country.
It seems Finland will have another woman for president, but strangely that doesn’t seem as striking, it actually sounds quite normal. Maybe the difference is just pure conceit and prejudice, I don’t know. Maybe we are just used to see the ‘western world’ as socially more developed.
Well, I just hope these new presidents turn out to be fair rulers to their people.

in my lifetime, the very 1st woman i know ran a government was margaret thatcher. looking at her, i know that there'll be more women running a country... even from the 3rd world countries.....
but what about US? ;) any woman soon? :D
At the Golden Globes, Geena Davis, who plays the first female US President on "Commander in Chief," was asked if she thought about having a real female for President. Geena replied, "To not consider having a female President excludes half the talent pool." Go Geena!
Didja hear? Laura Bush predicted a female President within the next few terms and she expressed her hope - gag - that it would be Condoleeza Rice. Listen, people, if Condoleeza gets elected, I'm effing moving to Candada.
isis: We're having presidential elections next Sunday, none of the candidates is worth a dime. Any real woman would be better than any of these guys. As would any real man for that matter.
iluvnyc: Thatcher is the absolut proof a woman can be as bad a ruler as any man.
bunny jo: So now you pay attention to what Laura B says? Wasn't her who also said most of the victims of Katrina were much better off living after Katrina?
tacit: It really is a pity you can't share our own presidential campaign. All the candidates are so bad I think I would even vote for Condi instead. I'll have to sort out the lesser problem in order to vote.
Who said Condi is a woman? She's awful. I agree with a previous commenter, some women can be just as bad as men. Condi and Margaret are examples. I am a die hard feminist but I believe women can be just as power hungry as men. And they can be catty and vicious. But I am under the believe the world be a bit more peaceful and rational. My 2 cents. Jane
I don't think our political problems have anything to do with men and women. Our problem, worldwide, is that we keep electing politicians (at least where elections take place). As long as politicians are in power, we'll never have peace.
Her comment just shows how stupid she is, if she thinks that the US's first female Prez should be Condibitcha Rice. I listen, yes...long enough to get a good laugh.
here is a link to all women presidents and prime ministers we had in the 20th century -

and personally, even if Candy is only good at buying shoes, if she runs, i'll vote for her, Hillary runs, i'll vote for her... bottom line, it doesnt matter, men, women, i havn't seen ONE political figure that i had any respect for, so might as well give a woman a try, but NOT because something will "change" or be "better"

mmm, I have seen the aftermath of "Thatcher" after 20 years it was still laid bare for all to see and complain about. As long as a PM or President serve the people and at least try to get things right (and be proven and seen to be doing so) Male or Female who cares? Maybe in some countries its time for a big shift - UK for one, they will never get it all right or please everyone, if anyone can rise to the challenge and improve lifes basic qualities then bring em in.... CR
DC, you've stirred some good feelings here! I am all for women presidents! In fact, no men at all should be in government!
Women will look after their people and country in the same way they run a family and a home.
Men will just keep measuring the size of their...egos!
jane: Good point there. Who said she is even human. It seems to me some women can be a lot worst than men when it comes to being ruthless.
viking: Usually those seeking power are the ones less fit to exercise power.
bunny jo: Just teasing you. Never thought you'd be one to agree with her nonsense.
ale: Thank's for that link. I don't really agree with your vote trends, my feeling is we always must pick the best choice even if it means picking the lesser evil.
cave renovator: I've seen a few honest people going into politics and selling out. Nowadays I don't trust any of our national politicians nor any of the foreign ones for that matter, if someone comes along and proves me wrong I will be very happy though.
tall glass: I don't really care about gender, but in both these countries the fact that things have changed enough for women to get elected seems exactly like a sign of change.
cream: I don't think you believe that any more than I do.
Nah, I don't think anything will change. There will always be dissenting voices amongst the people no matter how good a ruler is, male or female. And the people are the ones who will stir up trouble.
Remember that woman mayor you were talking about, D?
The most famous primeminister in modern times in Norway was a woman; in my eyes she was as hypocrite as all the others, but that is as a politician. In my eyes they are all the same, woman, transsexuals, or male. The point should be what government they run. You'll find both honest and sincere politicians(sadly rarely, though) of both genders. But it takes a while to find those politicians who wont back down for greed and for lobbies... That takes character even if you are male or female. If we take it historically, youlll end up with like 99% of governments being corrupt is male, but then again 90%++ of the governments is mainly ruled by males. It does not excuse Tatcher, or albright for that matter, but it pretty much shows that empathy and love for your next one might get a place in governmental priorities; and hopefully this will be achieved by a huger amount of "co-work" in the governments, and therefor diversity. Dont think missus Rice is doing too grand on equal-rights-for-all; she's black and a woman; it comes to the individual, in the latter she prooves to be pure fascist; that might as well happen to be the case of any madman/madwoman...
GG: Yup, you are right. And yes, I remember her. Sometimes I wish I didn't, but she is still there and still free.
isa, isae: The sad thing about honest politicians who stand their ground and dare saying the truth is that they are usually set aside by their own parties or murdered.
There's always hope....always.
I think condi is really a man.
I was brought up in Ireland and there has been a female president for donkey's! And yes, Condi could very well be a man!
Good Grief, Condi has a Chevron oil tanker named after her. She's not a great representative for either women or black people. Or the U.S. as a whole sadly.
Dc: You're thinking of Barbara Bush. She made that noble comment about Katrina victims.
I think Dc missed his calling. I was the child of a diplomat and I know good diplomatic material when I see it!
nat: But even hope seems to be having troubles with these world crisis...
caribbean: That would at least explain some things...
NML: And after the first one came the second woman president.
kris: Sounds like it's appropriate they both break for nothing, right? Thanks for correcting, I keep making that mistakes, confusing Barbara and Laura.
