Harry Potter ad nauseam

I've read the books. The first four are ok for kids, I guess, the fifth is what you can call book-by-the-pound, a heavy bunch of worthless word filled paper.
But what amazes me in Portugal: people that don't know english are buying the english version! The portuguese translation will only be availabe in October, and they have to buy it now! The same has happened with the fifth book.
How stupid is this?

Oh, so you have read them. I'm yet to read them to see why people go on about them.

Herd instinct, do you think? That's why people HAVE to buy it now?

strange things happen with comments that I try to leave. Twice my comments have disappeared from GG's blog and now when I wrote a bigger comment than just that one line on telepathy, it discards everything else.

Anyway, I was saying that in Hindi its called "Bhed Chaal".
Bhed means a lamb and chaal is a walk, in this case movement.

In a group if the first lamb beats a path, all the others follow the same path. Thats what this is.

Yup!
I haven't read any of these books and I will not probably.
Anyway - polish version will be available in January and the same as in Portugal: shops are selling english one! LOL. I don't know how popular this version is :)

Here it hit in the paper that a bookstore had sendt them out too eraly, so that people got them 15hours in advance. This was prsented as a grand scale scandal!

Im never gonna read those books; obviously not good for the mental health of the population...

GG: herd instinct is a nice way of putting it

anoop: no really telepathy, world wide book 'premiere' is more like it, lol
I don't know what is going on with the comments, some comments of mine have disappeared too

shyha: I am ok with people buying foreign books, if they can read those books, if they don't I think it's stupid

isa, isae: is someone afraid Norway will get to the end of the book first?

I think jealousy, or perhaps the fear that one guy suddenly tells the world how it ends...

Ok, you'd probably find it strange that I read books in languages I don't know. Movies too. I can't explain it either. Foreign languages and cultures simply mesmerize me...

Anyway, from a linguistic point of view, it is rather amazing how many languages Harry Potter is in now... Whether there is an audience or not! I mean, what do we need a Latin or Ancient Greek version for? Not Greek, but Ancient Greek.

I've even heard that there are both Catalan and Valencian translations, which are nearly identical languages! Can anyone back this up?

Well, I see movies in foreign languages and read books in foreign languages. Hell! Even this blog is writen in a foreign language. But buying something you just can't read is weird by my normal-weird-'beyond sense' scale.
LOL
