Book Suggestion

A great little book: “On Identity”.
Sadly the title translation wasn’t very good, the original title “Les Identités meurtrières” means “The Killer Identities”.
First of all I would invite you to take a few moments to read about the author, Amin Maalouf.
If you don’t want to follow the link I’ll give you the highlights: Lebanese, Christian, born and raised in Lebanon, currently living in France, former journalist, writer. One of his famous quotes: “When one lived in Lebanon, the first religion which one has, is the religion of coexistence.”
This book allows the reader to build a different perspective on the cause of most of the problems nowadays, from the Hooligans phenomenon to the problems in Middle East.
From the author’s site:
“The notion of identity personal, religious, ethnic or national is one that has given rise to heated passion and crimes throughout human history. It is one that is at the heart of many of the most difficult social and political issues in the world today.”
Like all Maalouf's books, this one creates bridges between the East and the West.
Maalouf has at a time the passion for his people, his ancestry, his history and the good sense to analyze history without any prejudice. Without fear of facing the facts, their causes and writing what happened without bias, pointing out merits and mistakes no matter who did what.

A book I'd recommend, if you want to examine the psyche of man / what motivates the individual, is The Road Less Travelled.
