Let the music take you there
One thing that I love about music is the way it can help changing our mood.
When I visit some new place I always try and listen to the local music, later when we are back home listening to music from places where we’ve been helps bringing back memories and feelings we’ve had. Kris mentioned a particular music that reminded her the time when she lived in Africa, that e-mail made me smile because I am now waiting for the delivery of some CDs with Hawaiian music. There is something even better about music: it works as a time machine, helping us to remember happy moments from our past. I’ve never had therapy so I can’t actually say music is better than therapy to improve ones mood and the way one feels, but one thing is for sure: it works and it is cheaper than a shrink.
And sometimes you come across some long forgotten music, from when you were a kid, sometimes even music from an old TV or radio ad, sometimes the music from a school play or the Saturday morning cartoons, and it is like a blast of memories coming back to life. Guess this happens to everybody.

I know what you mean. Music really is the soundtrack of our lives.
That's interesting; my best friend has been working on a soundtrack of her life to play at her memorial service for years now.
And music is soooo much better than a shrink. After my daughter died I saw a counselor for grief counseling. Ugh! Dwelling on the sadness often left me feeling worse on my way out of his office than on my way in. However, anytime I need a quick pick-me-up, now all I have to do is pop in a CD. Positive action, good music, and friends and family who love you will work the magic a shrink could never even dream of!
oh absolutely! i think its crucial to delve into the local music when visiting foreign lands. while in ireland, my bff elizabeth and i went to a local pub and listened to a local band play and it was BEAUTIFUL! now everytime i hear traditional irish music, my heart skips a beat!
Music is primeval in its ability to evoke feelings and emotion in us.
The drum, the bass, the chant, the voice, the melody, all go to place in our brain that is the human side, not the animal side.
Music is my passion.
You are absolutely right about the way music being able to help change our mood.
Restaurants use to create mood, supermarkets to make you buy something or just relaxing at home! Music is important!
You know, I wonder whether the drum was the first instrument ever invented!
Strangely, I'm not as crazy about music as I used to be. I don't buy it anymore, except for gifts for my wife, and I usually let her listen to whatever she wants to hear.
(I only veto Shania Twain)
Have I lost some measure of passion or have I traded it for another?
bent: So, what's playing right now for you?
bunny jo: That's creepy! Who cares what music they'll play when I die? For all that I care they can have a party! I can deal with death, but I can't understand people who fret about what happens in their funeral. Beyond my understanding.
Positive action, good music friends and family I can understand. The simple basic and most important things in life (together with a few other good things...).
bees knees: Punk rock girl who likes Irish folk? Pretty eclectic! Great!
phoenix: Music our human side? Maybe… but what about the birds? They sing too.
cream: Mel Brooks would say the first musical instrument was a big club, cracked down on the nearest skulls…
chill daddy: Maybe… come to think about it, I don’t buy as much music as I did some years ago, but then again now I already have plenty of stuff to listen and not all new releases appeal that much. Maybe you’re just more selective, huh?
Ah, the therapeutic powers of music. I read somewhere that they're experimenting with it in some hospitals overseas.
GG: I was hoping it would rather help me avoid the hospital completely! ;)
