Have you seen The Exorcist or The Exorcism of Emily Rose?
Well, we have the real thing going on here in Lisbon since 1992!
A chapel in downtown Lisbon has become a sanctuary where exorcisms are performed.
Dom Armando Monteiro, who performs the rituals, is even considered one of the greatest exorcists in the world today, or so he claims.
This archbishop of an Orthodox Church, who has served time for child abuse, claims also to be a direct descendant of the Lascaris and of the Prince of Nicea thus being the Royal Emperor of Byzantium (this according to another archbishop of another Orthodox Church in Portugal, the one of which the exorcist was expelled before starting his own church and becoming himself an archbishop).
The place started to become famous due a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary started shedding human tears, a phenomenon verified by the archbishop of the said church probably… After that the believers report a long series of miracles and of successful exorcisms.
Believe it or not people are coming from all over the world to have their daemons purged…
Guess this daemon-buster would say I am possessed should he know I would rather purge this Earth of all the child molesters…

christine: What strikes me is the fact that any con artist who claims to have a revelation and starts a church finds a lot of good willed followers. People are so lost that they will take anything for an answer to their problems.
You've always seemed to be reasonable, wise, and clear-sighted, but here's the question this post brings to my mind - do you, Mr. DCver, believe in anything supernatural?
Perhaps another post to explain at length?
christine: This guy never belonged to the Roman Catholic Church though, he belonged to the main Orthodox Church here in Portugal and after getting expelled he started his own Orthodox Church and went to Brazil to become archbishop there (don't ask me how).
chill daddy: Yup, the answer to that is rather simple and yet it can't be short... I could easily say yes or no, but it really goes beyond that as you surely guessed. And I'll have to think about the best way to explain it without being missunderstood. I'll get back to you later...
