Lisboa - Dakar
THE race is about to start again. This year the cars, bikes and trucks will be departing from Lisboa.
Unfortunately I've been working like a dog and will be working through the New Year, hopefully with a little time to make a toast or two with some friends, so there is no way I can drive south to see any interesting part of the race, but at least I'll go and have a look at the machines before the start.

Tyat looks like a LOT of fun. Maybe you and I should enter next year DC.
I couldn't read the website - looks like a cross-desert race? I take it this is a national event?
rjm: ??? What left margin?
phoenix: Sorry mate, no can do, I'm saving my cents for the time being...
bunny jo: Big international event in fact. The race used to be Paris - Dakar, in the last couple of years it has started in several different places: Clermont-Ferrand (France), Granada and Barcelona (Spain). This year it starts in beautiful Lisboa!
Yes, I've been looking forward to it! Gotta find something to keep me occupied while Formula 1 is in the off-season...
Vroom vroom go D, go...
Is that Bunnyjo without the helmet?
The race used to go through Algeria but, due to the dangers of terrorism, the course was altered.
In the late eighties, Maggie Thatcher's son got lost in the Sahara. The Algerian airforce combed the dunes to find him! I think he was drinking mint tea with the Tuaregs!
Don't work too hard, DC...
viking: Thought Americans weren't much into F1...
GG: Yup, that seems to be her.
cream: Yup, in the early days always started in Paris and went across Algeria, but ever since the first time they had to make a detour they begun to make changes to the route every year.
rjm: You're right. It's gone since I made the current banner. Your fault actually... remember your post with links about the fact most blogs have only a narrow text column? But that has changed long ago.
I told you I once lived in Dakar, yes?
